To insure that students are thinking about what they read nightly students are to complete a Gist Summary about what they read each night for homework. Gist Summaries quiz students on the basic WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and WHY of what they read. After they fill in the 5 Ws, students are to summarize what they read in 25 words or less on the same sheet.
